A Storybook Christmas

by Curtis Lyon

/
1.
Christmas in Toytown - A jolly good time! The children were playing And singing in rhymes, The church bells rang proudly As presents were wrapped The blacksmith told stories ‘bout Christmases long past He told of a story Only young ones heeded About a mad king who, A terrible plan, conceded A scheme to end Christmas And all of its cheer The children were aghast And listening in fear “So what is this story?” You might inquire Well, to begin, dear reader, It was a century prior…
2.
“The kingdom is WHAT?” Shouted King Dazerdeer, Whose mood, at the moment, Was really quite severe. “Celebrating Christmas,” Said Dazerdeer’s herald He was indeed frightened for His master’s glare was cold “Who said they could do that?” Cried Dazerdeer, displeased The herald just shrugged The king said “I decree-” “-that Christmas be banished No more shall they carouse For Christmas is foolish, It I cannot allow.” The Herald delivered The message with dolor The kingdom was angry And gave the king an answer “How dare they do this - The law, they abhor?” From that moment on, King D was at war!
